Evan Walker, architect and planning minister in the Cain Labor government of Victoria, died on 16th February 2015, aged 79. During his term as planning minister (1982-85), Evan Walker was largely responsible for the transformation of the area now known as Southbank from an industrial wasteland to a vibrant entertainment and leisure precinct. He was awarded the TCPA’s Sir James Barrett memorial medal in 1986.
